Week 1: Cosmography

چکیده
In these lectures we will develop a quantitative model to describe the structure of the observable Universe as a whole. To begin, let us review the relevant physical scales. An Earth mass is 6× 1027 g ≃ 3 × 1051 GeV/c2 ≃ 3× 10−6 M⊙. Its radius is 6.4 × 10 8 cm. It spins around the Sun, which has a mass M⊙ = 2 × 10 33 g ≃ 1057 GeV/c2 and radius R⊙ ≃ 7 × 10 10 cm. The Earth-Sun distance is 1AU = 1.5× 1013 cm. The mass of Jupiter, the largest planet is ∼ 10−3 M⊙.

Copernican Cosmography in the First Mexican Physics Treatise
Copernican Cosmography was used to discover the path linking Cebu islands and Acapulco via Kuro-Shivo Stream, as registered in Physica Speculatio, first physics book written in New Spain. Teaching and practice of Copernican theory were an outcome of both Spanish expansion into the Pacific Ocean and native elite instruction devised by Augustinian friars. Copernican cosmography was explained in P...
متن کاملCosmographic Constraints and Cosmic Fluids
The problem of reproducing dark energy effects is reviewed here with particular interest devoted to cosmography. We summarize some of the most relevant cosmological models, based on the assumption that the corresponding barotropic equations of state evolve as the universe expands, giving rise to the accelerated expansion. We describe in detail the ΛCDM (Λ-Cold Dark Matter) and ωCDM models, cons...
متن کاملCosmography: Cosmology without the Einstein equations
Abstract. How much of modern cosmology is really cosmography? How much of modern cosmology is independent of the Einstein equations? (Independent of the Friedmann equations?) These questions are becoming increasingly germane — as the models cosmologists use for the stress-energy content of the universe become increasingly baroque, it behoves us to step back a little and carefully disentangle co...
متن کاملTensional computation: further musings on the computational cosmography
Universe operates in pure principle only, wherefrom we can choose to view Universe as an emergent computation. The proposed method for this most basic of computations is the computational cosmography, wherein a system of interacting deformable polyhedra utilizing the geometric prim-itives of R.B. Fuller's synergetic geometry coordinate and evolve within an isotropic vector matrix. A gedanken ex...
متن کاملCosmography, Decelerating Past, and Cosmological Models: Learning the Bayesian Way
In this paper, using a significantly improved version of the model-independent, cosmographic approach to cosmology (John, M. V. 2004, ApJ, 614, 1), we address an important question: Was there a decelerating past for the universe? To answer this, the Bayes’s probability theory is employed, which is the most appropriate tool for quantifying our knowledge when it changes through the acquisition of...
